New Zealand-India Education Connect Aimed to Boost Research Programs

  • ENZ (Education New Zealand Manapou ki te Ao) organized the New Zealand-India Education Connect program, which took place from February 8 to 14, 2024. The initiative aimed to facilitate bilateral discussions on research collaboration between New Zealand and India, emphasizing innovation, cultural exchange, and cooperation in the realm of international education. Delegates from New Zealand universities and Education New Zealand engaged with stakeholders in the education and government sectors of India throughout the week, with the overarching goal of enhancing dialogue on internationalization and student mobility. The program concluded on February 14, 2024.

Education New Zealand revealed the recipients of the New Zealand Excellence Awards (NZEA) scholarships during a media roundtable held in New Delhi. A total of 27 Indian students were chosen to pursue their studies at internationally acclaimed universities in New Zealand. The New Zealand Excellence Awards Scholarships initiative has supported over 200 Indian students since 2016, enabling them to fulfill their academic goals at prestigious universities in New Zealand.

In 2023, Education New Zealand introduced a fellowship initiative aimed at encouraging collaborative research endeavors at the New Zealand Centre located at IIT Delhi. This research-focused hub is dedicated to cultivating sustainable and mutually beneficial research programs in critical areas like climate change, disaster management, urban planning, and environmental monitoring. These thematic areas hold significant importance for both New Zealand and India.

The fellowship initiative aimed to promote academic exchange and collaboration between universities in New Zealand and India. The program selected four academics from New Zealand universities and two from IIT Delhi as fellows to advance joint research at the New Zealand Centre, focusing on areas such as climate change, disaster management, urban planning, and environmental monitoring. During the New Zealand-India Connect Week program, HE David Pine, the New Zealand High Commissioner to India, commended the two nations for celebrating 72 years of formal diplomatic relations in 2024. He expressed admiration for the well-nurtured bilateral ties in education that have evolved over the years.
