Japan has committed grant-in-aid for the construction of new classrooms at Shree Chandrawati Secondary School in Udayapur. The grant agreement was signed by Kikuta Yutaka, Ambassador of Japan to Nepal with Babu Ram Gole, Executive Director of Kids of Kathmandu, amid a ceremony held at the Embassy of Japan in Kathmandu. This scheme is supported under the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) of the Government of Japan and includes a grant of USD 65,298 as stated by the Japan Embassy.
Shree Chandrawati Secondary School was established in 1960 and consists of 330 students. Some of the school buildings have not been renovated for 30 years having many cracks in the walls and severe leaks in the roofs. buildings are also vulnerable to earthquakes. These buildings are no longer suitable for learning and must be revamped as soon as possible. According to the embassy, "This project endeavours to achieve an improved educational environment by constructing new classroom buildings at the school and will be supervised by Kids of Kathmandu, who has been working to improve the educational environment in Nepal".
Japan Embassy is confident that this project will provide a suitable learning environment for students and improve the standard of their education. An act of this kind will further strengthen the relations between the peoples of Japan and Nepal, and will also lay the foundations of future generations. Grant Assistance for Grassroots Projects (GGP) was established so that these kinds of projects that directly benefit people at the grassroots level can be put into practice. Since 1991, over 200 GGP projects have been completed in Nepal." which has resulted in the socio-economic development of communities.
