MMI Delegation Visits Sri Lanka to Boost Early Childhood Education

  • During a recent trip to Sri Lanka, representatives from Modern Montessori International (MMI) centers in the UK and Singapore conducted a tour of MMI centers across the island. The visit was geared towards improving early childhood education and promoting international cooperation within the MMI network. Bob Durgude, Academic Director from Singapore, and Marianne, Academic Director and Principal from the UK, expressed contentment with the advancements and accomplishments observed in the Sri Lankan centers. They praised the exceptional educational standards and supportive atmospheres found in each center.

Durgude highlighted the talent and friendliness of the teachers, stating, “The teachers here are exceptionally talented and friendly, which creates a positive and supportive learning environment for the children. Their dedication to the Montessori method is evident in the students’ progress and happiness”.

A notable event was the teacher training held at the ANC auditorium, where educators were updated on the latest Montessori methodologies. This session also included discussions on revitalizing an enhanced Early Childhood Diploma program, which provides pathways to a Higher National Diploma (HND) and the final year of a degree, enabling further studies in the UK, Australia, and New Zealand. The engaging session left teachers motivated and prepared to integrate new approaches into their classrooms.

Marianne said, “I absolutely love the open areas and outdoor spaces in the classrooms here. They provide a wonderful environment for the children to learn and explore, which is essential for their development”. Additionally, the visit included meet-and-greet sessions with parents, providing an opportunity to discuss children's development and receive feedback. The delegates commended the proactive engagement of parents and emphasized the significance of a robust collaboration between home and school.

Overall, the visit strengthened international connections within the MMI network and underscored Sri Lanka's dedication to delivering high-quality Montessori education. The enthusiastic feedback from the delegates reflects the commitment of the staff, parents, and the wider MMI community in Sri Lanka.
