Ministry supports UAE's future EV engineers for Greenpower STEM

  • The Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure has announced a partnership with Pole Position, a Dubai-based motorsports agency, to support the UAE Greenpower STEM Education Programme. This initiative involves students building electric cars and competing for energy efficiency.

Recently, students and teachers from GEMS Winchester School, participating in the program, visited the Ministry to share their experiences with Sharif Salim Al Olama, the Undersecretary for Energy and Petroleum Affairs. They highlighted the program's benefits, including increased awareness of sustainability and enthusiasm for the upcoming Race Finals in May 2024.

In November 2023, Ministry representatives visited GEMS Winchester School and were impressed with the students' Greenpower car project. This led to the Ministry's decision to support and expand the program across UAE schools. A Ministry delegation will attend the Race Finals to meet students and award the winning team.

The Greenpower Program, introduced to the UAE in 2023 with support from the Greenpower Education Trust in the UK, involves 10 teams of students aged 11-16 from GEMS Schools. These teams have been constructing their Greenpower cars since September, focusing on aerodynamic efficiency, weight reduction, and the use of sustainable materials. They are now putting the final touches on their cars for the May races.

The Race Finals consist of two 60-minute races, determining winners based on the distance covered. A prizegiving ceremony will follow, with trophies awarded for First, Second, and Third Place, as well as recognition for the Most Sustainable Team and the Best Team Spirit.
