Malaysian Digital School aims to nurture 600 talents by the year 2024

  • The Selangor Digital School (SDS), a collaboration between the Selangor state government, Selangor Information Technology and Digital Economy Corp (Sidec), and The Hive South-East Asia, is committed to developing 600 talents by 2024 to enhance the nation's digital skills landscape. Sidec underscores that SDS will function as a proficient intermediary, equipping students with artificial intelligence (AI) technology skills. This strategic initiative aims to build an AI-skilled workforce and foster connections with leading technology companies in Selangor through comprehensive training and industrial placements. "To date, SDS has formed partnerships with 55 Internet alliance-related companies and 50 companies within the Sidec cooperation network".

A total of 105 companies collaborating with the industry have shown interest in accepting students who received AI training, as stated by the agency. Noteworthy companies among these collaborators include Yinson Holdings Bhd, Fusionex Group, EasyStore, Razer Merchant Services, and ClickAsia. The SDS has introduced the AI Nusantara training program to address the shortage of AI professionals, focusing on digital marketing and prompt engineering. The program's implementation revolves around three key elements: training and placing final-year students, developing a specialized curriculum with industry integration, and providing expertise in AI and machine learning to Malaysians. The inaugural cohort of the program successfully upskilled 31 students from Universiti Selangor (Unisel) at Bestari Jaya.

Sidec emphasized that Unisel students have successfully completed intensive training in data analytics and machine learning, acquiring valuable skills essential in today's digital economy. These proficient students have now secured positions in prestigious internship programs at notable companies such as QMed Asia, Borong, Xhinobi Studios, Mindhive, and Moovby, paving the way for promising careers in technology and innovation. SDS has further formalized collaboration by signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with YTL Power International Bhd to establish comprehensive educational and training initiatives focused on advancing skills and knowledge in AI and sustainable development.
