The Times Higher Education (THE) Asia Universities Summit 2025 kicked off in Macao, gathering more than 300 delegates from throughout the region to explore Asia's journey of transformation in science, technology, and innovation. Co-hosted by the Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST), the summit runs from April 22 to 24 at the university campus in Taipa.
Themed 'Asia's Rise: A Transformative Journey in Science, Technology and Innovation', the summit examines how Asia has catapulted as a world leader in research and development. The keynote focuses on the dynamic innovation ecosystems of the region, driven by major investments in education and infrastructure. Topical issues include collaborative innovations, the present state of science and technology institutes, and the future challenges of ethical use of technology and the digital divide.
Some of the most prominent speakers for the occasion include Michelle Aguilar-Ong, President of Mabalacat City College; Muhammad Al-Saggaf, President of King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals; Nancy Ip, President of The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology; and Sibrandes Poppema, President of Sunway University. These are speaking about creating a culture of research and enhancing inclusivity within the scientific community.
One of the highlights of the summit is the special live announcement of the THE Asia University Rankings 2025, followed by a masterclass to delve into the latest statistics and determine the top-performing institutions in Asia. The winners of the THE Awards Asia 2025 will also be celebrated for their outstanding leadership and institutional performance in higher education in Asia.
Professor Joseph Lee, MUST President, greeted the summit delegates with a focus on the need for partnerships and collaborations in the pursuit of excellence in education and research.
