A delegation from Macao, led by Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture Ao Ieong U, recently concluded a successful visit to San Francisco, United States, aimed at fostering international collaborations in education and talent development. The delegation, comprising key figures from Macao's education and youth development sectors, engaged in a series of activities from May 27 to 31 to attract outstanding international academics and students to Macao's higher education institutions.
The primary objective of the visit was to promote the internationalization of higher education in Macao, attract talented individuals, and facilitate scientific research, all while supporting the city's economic diversification strategy. Throughout their stay, the delegation met with local universities and Chinese student and scholar associations and participated in the 'U.S.-China Bay-to-Bay Dialogue'.
One of the highlights of the visit was organizing sessions titled 'Development Opportunities for Talents in Macao, China'. These sessions provided a platform to introduce the current state of higher education and talent development in Macao to Chinese students and scholars associations, Chinese chambers of commerce, and youth groups in San Francisco. The delegation actively engaged with attendees, encouraging them to consider pursuing studies and supporting research initiatives in Macao.
During their visit, the delegation visited prestigious institutions such as Stanford University, the University of California, Davis, and San Francisco State University. They also ventured into Silicon Valley, showcasing Macao's higher education landscape and discussing potential collaborations with local organizations. Secretary Ao Ieong U delivered a speech at the 'U.S.-China Bay to Bay Dialogue', emphasizing the importance of fostering friendships and collaboration between the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the San Francisco Bay Area. Additionally, Vice Rector Ge Wei and President Lee Hun-wei participated in group discussions, promoting Macao's higher education initiatives.
At the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in San Francisco, Secretary Ao Ieong U highlighted Macao's unique role in the Greater Bay Area and the city's '1+4' economic diversification strategy. The delegation sought support from the consulate in promoting Macao's education and talent recruitment programs.
Members of the delegation included key figures from various sectors, including the Director of the Office of the Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture, the President of the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute, and representatives from the Talent Development Committee and the Economic Development Bureau of the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Co-operation Zone in Hengqin.
The visit to San Francisco underscored Macao's commitment to fostering international collaborations in education and talent development.
