Lingnan University confers Honours, and Greets Renowned Scholars

  • Lingnan University recently hosted the Lingnan University Institute for Advanced Study (LUIAS) conferment ceremony, presided over by Prof S. Joe Qin, President and Wai Kee Kau Chair Professor of Data Science. The event honoured three distinguished scholars: Prof Alain Bensoussan, who was named a Lingnan Fellow, and Prof Joshua Mok Ka-ho and Prof Tsui Kwok-Leung, who were designated Senior Lingnan Scholars.

    Prof Alain Bensoussan, Lars Magnus Ericsson Chair and Director of the International Centre for Decision and Risk Analysis at the University of Texas at Dallas, has an impressive career history. He previously served as President of the National Institute for Research in Computer Science and Control (INRIA), President of the French Space Agency (CNES), and Chairman of the European Space Agency (ESA) Council. A member of several prestigious academies, including the French Academy of Sciences and the Academia Europaea, Prof Bensoussan has received numerous accolades such as the Von Humboldt Award and the NASA Public Service Medal. He holds high honours from France and Germany and recently won the IEEE Systems Control Award in 2024. 

    Prof Joshua Mok Ka-ho, Vice-President and Lam Man Tsan Chair Professor of Comparative Policy at Lingnan University, is noted for his interdisciplinary work in sociology, political science, and public policy, with a focus on comparative education and social development in China and East Asia. He has founded and served as Editor-in-Chief for the Journal of Asian Public Policy and Asian Education and Development Studies. Prof Mok is also highly ranked in higher education research, being 8th globally and the top Asian scholar in his field according to ScholarGPS. 

    Prof S. Joe Qin emphasized LUIAS’s growth and the importance of international collaboration, highlighting its role in integrating arts and sciences and fostering global academic exchanges. He expressed confidence that partnerships with leading scholars will drive innovation and address societal challenges through impactful research.
