LG CNS and Aeon Partner to Transform EdTech in Japan

  • South Korea's LG CNS and Japan's Aeon have announced a significant collaboration to revolutionize the Japanese education technology (EdTech) landscape. The two companies signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) aimed at integrating advanced digital transformation technologies into Aeon’s educational operations.

LG CNS, the cloud computing services division of LG Corp, will drive this initiative by implementing a range of digital solutions across Aeon’s education sector. This includes developing an AI-driven English conversation tutor app tailored for Japanese public education, renewing the existing AI Speak Tutor 2 app, and enhancing Aeon's online learning management system (LMS).

A key aspect of the collaboration is the launch of a specialized AI Speak Tutor for School app, designed for elementary and middle school students. This new app will offer AI-powered English conversation services, using school textbooks to support students in learning English.

Despite Japan’s high laptop and tablet penetration among young students, there remains a scarcity of AI-based English conversation content. LG CNS plans to address this gap by revamping AI Speak Tutor 2 into an integrated English learning platform with features for conversation, reading, listening, and testing. The AI in the app will assess users' pronunciation, speech speed, and accuracy to evaluate their skills and proficiency.

In addition, LG CNS will enhance Aeon’s online LMS with AI and big data capabilities, facilitating integrated data management for students, instructors, and educational content. This will enable Aeon to offer personalized, one-on-one learning experiences based on detailed data analysis from both online and offline interactions.
