Kyushu University Delegation Visits Illinois for Student Exchanges

  • A delegation from Kyushu University recently visited the Urbana-Champaign campus with the aim of strengthening ties and potentially expanding opportunities for University of Illinois students to study in Japan. Facilitated by the College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences (ACES) Office of International Programs, the visit provided an extensive itinerary for the Kyushu faculty members to explore campus facilities and engage with colleagues sharing mutual research interests.

The delegation also conducted an informational session for students, highlighting the affordability and complementary nature of study-abroad programs in Kyushu. These programs offer enriching experiences in Japanese culture and aquaculture, aligning well with ACES coursework.

Lauren Karplus, the assistant director of international programs at ACES, expressed enthusiasm about the visit's outcomes and the potential for deeper collaboration with Kyushu University. Plans are underway to explore avenues like summer quarter programs and shorter-term exchanges, possibly spanning two weeks. Collaboration efforts involve coordination with ACES Education Abroad and other international staff across campus.

Kyushu University, one of Japan's prestigious national universities, is situated in Fukuoka on Kyushu Island, known for its scenic beauty and vibrant culture.
