KOICA held a Conference at Uzbek State World Languages University

  • The KOICA Uzbekistan office recently organized a Knowledge Sharing Program at the Uzbekistan State World Languages University, showcasing the expertise of graduates from their scholarship program who studied in Korea. Ms. Iroda Malikova, a Yonsei University graduate with a master's in Women's Rural Development, played a prominent role as a presenter.

Her presentation not only reflected on her personal experiences in Korea but also underscored the significance of education and career opportunities for women, a topic particularly relevant to the majority female audience. The event drew a crowd of over 130 enthusiastic students, many of whom actively engaged in the Q&A session.

The University administration, including figures such as Mr. Djurayev Dilshod, the Dean of the Faculty of Oriental Philology, Mr. Turubov Jahongir, the Deputy Dean, Ms. Azimova Parizod, an Advisor Dean for Gender Equality, and Mr. Ji Moon Gun, Head of the Korean Philology Department, showed keen interest and participated actively.

Established in 1992 by Islam Karimov, the Uzbekistan State University of World Languages, located in Tashkent, has a rich history. It comprises eight faculties, covering a diverse range of language-related disciplines, and is a key institution for training ESL teachers and developing language teaching methodologies and materials in Uzbekistan. The university also oversees its printing services and the Centre for Development of Language Teaching Methods.

KOICA's Scholarship Program has been instrumental in facilitating academic exchanges between Korea and Uzbekistan since 1992. Around 170 Uzbekistan officials have earned master's or doctoral degrees through this program, while approximately 2,300 officials have participated in short-term training programs. Such exchanges are pivotal for fostering mutual understanding and collaboration between the two nations, and they are expected to continue in the future.
