Kazakhstan Joins EU-Central Asia Education Cooperation Conference

  • The University of Camerino in Italy hosted the conference "Erasmus – Central Asia: Strategic Partnership and Cultural Dialogue at a New Level," focusing on collaboration between Central Asian universities and prominent European universities, according to the Kazakh Foreign Ministry, as reported. In his welcoming address, the Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Italy, Yerbolat Sembayev, highlighted the strategic significance of Kazakhstan's relationship with Italy.

    The Kazakh diplomat discussed the development of cooperation within the initiative 'Central Asia + Italy' framework to strengthen bilateral ties. He noted that the development of relations based on mutual respect and interests contributes to the sustainable development and prosperity of both sides.

    “Cooperation within the framework of 'Central Asia + Italy' is gaining momentum, conditioned by the strategic interest of both sides in various spheres. This format provides a comprehensive approach to joint projects, which contributes to the integration of the region and strengthening of international ties”, underlined the Ambassador.

    Significant focus was given to the official visit of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev of Kazakhstan to Italy in January 2024. The visit marked a pivotal moment that bolstered bilateral relations and unveiled fresh avenues for collaboration. Sembayev underscored that the high-level meetings included discussions on economic partnership, cultural exchange, and educational initiatives.

    Furthermore, during his address, the Ambassador of Kazakhstan emphasized the significance of collaboration in education, science, and culture. He highlighted that the exchange of students and teachers under the Erasmus program plays a pivotal role in enhancing the friendly relations between Kazakhstan and Italy.

    In the framework of the event, the Ambassador also presented to the participants of the conference the book of the great Kazakh poet and thinker Abai in Italian, which has become an important project in strengthening the cultural dialogue between our countries. In addition, the participants of the event presented a tourist guide about Kazakhstan called “Kazakhstan. Infinite spaces, infinite beauty”. The guidebook tells in detail about the rich history, culture and natural attractions of our country, contributing to attracting tourists and strengthening international ties.

    The event was attended by representatives from universities in Central Asia and Italy, diplomatic mission leaders, education experts, and local students, fostering a productive exchange of perspectives and insights. Kazakhstan was represented by institutions such as the University of International Business, Kazakh National University Al-Farabi, and Zhetysu University, along with Kazakh students studying at Italian universities. The "Erasmus – Central Asia" conference served as a significant platform for discussing current issues and enhancing connections between the regional countries and Italy.
