Katara launches Space Science Program for Students & Community

  • The Cultural Village has launched the Katara Space Sciences Programme, targeting students, researchers, and the wider community. This initiative aims to boost awareness and education in space and astronomy sciences, while also promoting scientific research in collaboration with global space scientists.

    The programme's announcement featured key figures such as Katara general manager Prof. Dr. Khalid bin Ibrahim al-Sulaiti, space science consultant Dr. Jim Adams, and Maps International founder and president Rashmi Agarwal. Dr. al-Sulaiti expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration between Katara and esteemed space scientists, who have extensive experience with top scientific and research institutions worldwide, including NASA.

    Dr. al-Sulaiti highlighted Katara's significant strides in enhancing awareness and education in astronomy. He emphasized that Katara has been effectively spreading knowledge of space and the universe through modern and innovative methods. Since the opening of the Al Thuraya Planetarium, Katara has been dedicated to expanding educational horizons in astronomy and space sciences, supported by numerous cooperation agreements and partnerships with universities, educational institutes, and specialized research institutions.

    Dr. Adams noted that the Katara Space Sciences Programme is designed to engage various segments of society, including space and astronomy enthusiasts. It will be the first programme of its kind in Qatar and the region, aiming to involve and train individuals from different social groups in space sciences. 

    Agarwal mentioned that the Space Science Programme would continue throughout 2024, in coordination with space agencies globally. The Al Thuraya Planetarium will serve as the venue for a series of events and programmes dedicated to space and astronomy sciences, further cementing Katara's role in fostering knowledge and education in these fields.
