Kikuta Yutaka, the Ambassador of Japan to Nepal, and Deepak Chapagain, President of Volunteer Corps Nepal (VCN), signed a grant agreement for the reconstruction of a classroom building at Shree Bheri Tribeni Secondary School (SBTSS) in Jajarkot district. The signing ceremony took place at the Embassy of Japan in Kathmandu.
The project is funded under the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) of the Government of Japan and includes a grant of USD 170,159 (approximately NPR 22.7 million). The project is managed by VCN, which has been active in emergency disaster relief and other sectors since 2018.
Established in 1985, Shree Bheri Tribeni Secondary School (SBTSS) serves as a key educational institution for nearly 500 students from Jajarkot and surrounding districts. However, the school was heavily impacted by the November 2023 earthquake, which caused the complete collapse of its main building. To aid the community's recovery from post-earthquake challenges, the project will fund the reconstruction of a two-story building featuring 12 classrooms.
The new classrooms funded by the GGP are anticipated to offer a safe and effective learning environment for students and teachers, who are currently using temporary shelters for their activities. The Embassy of Japan stated that this project will enhance the educational environment and also serve as a symbol of the post-earthquake reconstruction efforts, contributing to the overall development of Nepal, including the Jajarkot region.
The GGP was created to carry out projects that directly benefit communities at the grassroots level, aiming to enhance their socio-economic development. Since its inception in 1991, more than 200 GGP projects have been completed in Nepal.
