Indonesia Wins 2024 ASEAN Digital Awards for Startup Programs

  • Mira Tayyiba, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Communication and Informatics, emphasized that Indonesia's achievement as the overall winner at the 2024 ASEAN Digital Awards (ADA) is a testament to the effectiveness of the ministry's initiatives in supporting digital startups. Indonesia secured a total of five awards during the 2024 ADA ceremony, which was held at the Gala Dinner of the 4th ASEAN Digital Ministers Meeting (ADGMIN) in Singapore.

"This has signified that the digital startup programs initiated by the ministry run quite effectively", Tayyiba noted in a ministry press release. She pointed out that the digital initiatives crafted by the Ministry's Directorate General of Informatics Application consist of multiple layers, aiming to streamline the development of national digital startups. Thanks to these programs, a growing number of young individuals are expressing interest in establishing startup ventures and offering innovative solutions across various sectors.

She observed that beyond offering solutions in the technology and information sectors, these programs also motivate startups to venture into other business domains. As an illustration, she highlighted the success of Indonesian teams that secured victories in the 2024 ASEAN Digital Awards (ADA). "Those winners are not conventional businesses, like e-commerce and fintech, but have entered more basic things, like agriculture and maritime", she remarked.

At the 2024 ADA, Indonesia won five awards, comprising two gold, one silver, and two bronze, in the digital startup and private sector categories. Gold awards were won by the Crustea team and Shieldtag team, the silver award was bagged by the Artopologi team, and bronze awards were secured by the Jaramba team and the Incrane team.

The 2024 ASEAN Digital Awards (ADA), formerly recognized as the ASEAN ICT Awards, focuses on fostering innovation and collaboration among governments, businesses, and institutions. ADA comprises six categories: public sector, private sector, digital content, digital startup, digital innovation, and digital inclusivity.
