India, Bhutan Collaborate on STEM Education Strengthening

  • India and Bhutan have jointly decided to strengthen their collaboration in the realm of education, particularly focusing on enhancing the teaching of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) in Bhutan with the assistance of Indian teachers. This move, aimed at bolstering educational ties, signifies a mutual commitment to fostering dynamic interactions between the peoples of both nations.

    The decision emerged following the official visit of Bhutan's Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay, accompanied by his wife Tashi Doma, who was invited by India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi for a significant diplomatic engagement. This visit holds significance as it marks Prime Minister Tobgay's inaugural international trip since assuming office in January 2024. Beyond education, India and Bhutan have also agreed to intensify their cooperative endeavours in progressive domains such as digital technology, start-ups, and STEM fields, reflecting a shared aspiration for innovation and development.

    Bhutan expressed appreciation for India's assistance in bolstering sports infrastructure within its borders, underscoring the depth of bilateral cooperation. Moreover, both nations acknowledged the value of their partnership in space technology, including recent collaborative efforts such as the training program conducted by the Indian Space Research Organisation on remote sensing technology for Bhutan's Royal Government. Furthermore, they welcomed the advancements achieved in the Joint Plan of Action on Space Cooperation, highlighting the strides made in this crucial area of collaboration.
