During the official state visit of Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the Indian Defence Services Staff College (DSSC) in Wellington, Tamil Nadu, and the Defence Services Command and Staff College (DSCSC) in Dhaka, Bangladesh, have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on Military Education focusing on Strategic and Operational Studies.
Both colleges provide training to tri-services officers, equipping them for advanced staff and command roles. They share a unified ethos, curriculum, and training methodology while encountering comparable challenges. As a result, they have opted to collaborate by signing an MoU to deepen bilateral engagements and strengthen their educational initiatives.
This MoU will enhance professional acumen, provide deep insight into strategic affairs, share best practices and expertise, and augment the academic capabilities of student officers and faculty members. It will also facilitate the conduct of training packages, joint seminars, faculty exchanges, and reciprocal instructor visits to name a few. Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina arrived in India on a two-day State visit at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
In a landmark move, the recent bilateral state visit marked the first since PM Modi's re-election following the Lok Sabha elections. Notably, Sheikh Hasina was among the global leaders who attended PM Modi's swearing-in ceremony. During the visit, India and Bangladesh affirmed their dedication to fostering a free, open, inclusive, secure, and rules-based Indo-Pacific region.
Both nations have committed to jointly spearhead the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management component of the Indo-Pacific Oceans Initiative (IPOI), aiming to collaborate closely in mitigating disaster risks. Additionally, they have pledged to enhance cooperation on international forums to advance shared interests, particularly those pertinent to the Global South.
