The Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati, in partnership with EduRade and RC HobbyTech Solutions Pvt. Ltd., launched India's largest Remote Pilot Training Organization (RPTO) over 18 acres, capable of flying nine medium-class drones simultaneously. The main goal is to advance drone technology in India.
Initially, the RPTO will introduce a DGCA-Certified Medium Class Drone Pilot Training Course, focusing on enhancing the skills of youth in the North East and other parts of India. It will specifically cater to women from self-help groups (SHGs) in agriculture, identified under the Namo Drone Didi Yojna. Completion of the course earns students a Remote Pilot Certificate (RPC) sanctioned by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), allowing them to legally operate drones and pursue a career as Certified Drone Pilots.
IIT Guwahati is hosting a groundbreaking three-month drone training program for diverse defence personnel, especially Junior Commissioned Officers (JCOs), to modernize armed forces operations. The program covers various aspects of drone technologies, including pilot training, software operations, and applications. Participants receive an exhaustive curriculum to prepare them for post-retirement career options, providing knowledge to excel in the dynamic drone industry or pursue technology entrepreneurship.
Over the past three years, IIT Guwahati has dedicated itself to cultivating innovation and excellence in drone technology. The institute aims to extend drone education, entrepreneurship, and manufacturing across India, nurturing a generation equipped with essential skills to excel in the field. Parameswar K. Iyer, Dean of PRBR at IIT Guwahati, emphasized the goal of driving progress and innovation in this rapidly advancing field.
