IIT Guwahati Partners with Canadian and Japanese Universities for Research

  • The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Guwahati, has entered into four Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with international educational institutions from Canada and Japan. These collaborations formalize partnerships with Dalhousie University, Canada, and Gifu University, Japan, each lasting five years and potentially extendable through mutual agreement.

One MoU with Dalhousie University, Canada, focuses on establishing a Joint Doctoral Program. This program aims to encourage dynamic research collaborations between scholars and students from both institutions, offering diverse perspectives and expertise to enhance the educational journey and research outcomes.

Furthermore, IIT Guwahati has signed three MoUs with Gifu University, Japan, for the International Joint PhD program. This program, spanning three years, involves collaborative course design by both universities, providing students with a comprehensive educational experience. Doctoral candidates will receive guidance from faculty members at both institutions throughout their dissertation work, and research progress will be evaluated by a multidisciplinary team, ensuring high academic standards and fostering innovative outcomes.

Additionally, the collaboration between IIT Guwahati and Gifu University includes a two-year International Masters Joint Degree Program in Food Science and Technology. Managed collaboratively, this program facilitates coursework and dissertation evaluation, with an emphasis on data sharing between institutions to cultivate highly skilled professionals in food science and related fields.

The third collaboration involves the establishment of a Glocal Expert Program between IIT Guwahati and Gifu University. This international joint-certificate initiative, under the Inter-University Exchange Project (IUEP), allows students to obtain certification from both universities as exchange students. This program promotes cross-cultural learning, enhancing global competencies.
