Hyundai Engineering, on the 21st, stated that it sent a global volunteer team of staff to Thanh Hóa Province, Vietnam, to perform climate change response volunteer activities. A global volunteer team of 18 staff members of Hyundai Engineering, who were chosen through an internal recruitment process, took part in different volunteer programs such as climate change education and tree planting from the 14th to the 19th (local time) in Thanh Hóa Province, Vietnam.
For the first, the volunteer team delivered a lecture of 'causes and effects of climate change' to local high school students at Hong Duc University's 'Climate Change Response Education Center'. They spent an hour discussing the climate crisis through a variety of activities including quizzes and discussions. Later, they became judges in a waste recycling idea contest involving students from 11 high schools in Thanh Hóa Province and assessed the works submitted, awarding outstanding projects.
The Climate Change Response Education Center opened in September as a social contribution project of Hyundai Engineering, the 'No. 13 New Hope School' project. The education center carries out practical educational programs to enhance students', teachers', and residents' knowledge about climate change as well as their ability to respond to climate change in Thanh Hóa Province.
The volunteer group also headed to Ben En National Park, where they planted 500 Melaleuca trees together with local villagers and assisted with environmental clean-up activities along the trails. Hyundai Engineering aims to assist in planting around 10,000 trees at Ben En National Park by 2026. One of the representatives from Hyundai Engineering said that it would serve to prevent water run-off and soil erosion along the lake and prevent water sources for local farmers' fields and daily use.
Hyundai Engineering has been continuously performing the 'New Hope School' social contribution work to establish education infrastructure for the people in the areas linked with overseas projects. The region of Thanh Hóa Province, where the 13th New Hope School is situated, was chosen as part of cooperation with the 'Ion Mall Thanh Hóa' construction project, which Hyundai Engineering is currently executing. Arrangements are underway to facilitate climate change response in partnership with Save the Children for nearly three years from last year through to next year.
One of the Hyundai Engineering employees who joined this volunteer activity stated, 'It was a valuable experience to directly talk to local students and discuss climate change,' and continued, 'I hope we can continue to support sustainable development while sharing the air with the community through the New Hope School project'.
