Dr. Choi Yuk-lin, Hong Kong’s Secretary for Education, attended the 2025 Asia-Pacific Association for International Education (APAIE) Conference in New Delhi, India, on March 27. During the event, Dr. Choi received the APAIE flag from Professor Venky Shankararaman, President of APAIE, officially announcing that the 2026 APAIE Conference and Exhibition will be held in Hong Kong.
In her speech, Dr. Choi highlighted Hong Kong’s unique position as Asia's world city, offering global connectivity, top-tier infrastructure, and rich cultural experiences. She also emphasized the opportunities for academic collaboration in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, which is a world-class innovation hub. Dr. Choi invited international partners to attend the 2026 conference to explore teaching and research collaboration with Hong Kong’s institutions.
The APAIE Conference is the largest education conference in the Asia-Pacific region. The 2026 event, scheduled from February 23 to 27, will be hosted by the Chinese University of Hong Kong with support from other University Grants Committee (UGC)-funded universities. The conference will bring together leaders from global higher education, allowing local institutions to strengthen cooperation with international counterparts.
At the conference, Dr. Choi also delivered a speech on the theme 'Study in Hong Kong', promoting the city as an exceptional study destination known for its vibrant culture, high quality of life, and safety. She highlighted Hong Kong’s commitment to becoming an international hub for higher education, with five local universities ranking among the world’s top 100.
Dr. Choi visited the Hong Kong Pavilion at the conference and learned about the proactive efforts of UGC-funded universities in expanding their international networks. She also met with international education leaders to discuss post-secondary education development.
Dr. Choi is scheduled to meet with the Chinese Ambassador to India on March 28 before returning to Hong Kong.
