HH Unveils 'Al Azzm Artwork' in Education City Dubai

  • The Al Azzm sculpture, part of Qatar Foundation's public art collection at Education City, was inaugurated by Chairperson HH Sheikha Moza bint Nasser. The event, attended by HE Vice Chairperson and CEO Sheikha Hind bint Hamad Al-Thani, included the unveiling of an official plaque providing information about the sculpture and its creator, as well as various performances and speeches.

Crafted by HE Sheikh Hassan Bin Mohammed Bin Ali Al-Thani, Advisor of Cultural Affairs at QF, Al Azzm represents the resilience of local women depicted walking against the wind, arms crossed, with their abayas flowing behind them. Beyond symbolizing women's strength and solidarity, the sculpture embodies Qatari cultures and traditions, reflecting the nation's determination to overcome challenges. The use of three women also signifies QF's three focus areas: science and research, education, and community development.

HE Sheikh Hassan explained that Al Azzm signifies Qatar Foundation's journey from its establishment in 1995 to the present, embodying resolve and willpower that mirror the organization's story. Art is integral to the Qatar Foundation, adorning every hall and entrance, and transforming buildings into artistic expressions. This artistic focus, including statues in Education City, enhances the organization's aesthetic appeal and signifies its elegance. Other artworks by HE Sheikh Hassan in Education City, such as The Door to The Future, are part of the QF Art Walks Tour, showcasing diverse forms of art from local and international artists.

The Malwiya Sculpture, created by HE Sheikh Hassan, draws inspiration from an impression of a currency called Tawila Al-Hasa, used in the Gulf region and neighbouring countries during the 15th to 18th centuries. Al Azzm, designed to celebrate QF's 25th anniversary, is located near the 2015 building. All of Sheikh Hassan's designs in Education City are included in the QF Art Walks Tour, highlighting a variety of artworks from both local and international artists.
