Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) has launched the Master of Arts in Translation for the Creative Industries, developed by the College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHSS) Department of Language, Culture, and Communication. This program is the first of its kind in the Middle East and North Africa region.
Blending the art of translation with the evolving needs of diverse creative industries, the program provides aspiring translators, content creators, and cultural mediators with advanced skills for today’s global creative markets. The innovative curriculum includes courses on transcreation, subtitling, and more, along with opportunities to collaborate on real-world projects with industry leaders. Additionally, the program’s focus on the Arabic context offers participants a unique opportunity to shape the future of translation in the Arab world’s creative industries.

The Master of Arts in Translation for the Creative Industries, offered by CHSS, was launched during a ceremony at Education City’s Minaretein Building on February 4. The event featured a keynote address by Dr. Josélia Neves, an accessibility consultant and renowned scholar, who spoke about the transformative impact of inclusive practices in translation for the creative industries. Attendees also had the chance to explore innovative projects focused on transcreation and accessible media, alongside exhibits demonstrating how translation bridges gaps and promotes inclusivity.
