HBKU to Launch Undergraduate Engineering Programs at Education City

  • Building upon Qatar Foundation’s (QF) enduring commitment to nurturing human potential and reflecting the continuous growth and development of Education City’s higher education landscape, Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) is set to introduce a series of fresh undergraduate engineering programs through its College of Science and Engineering (CSE) from the 2024-25 academic year onwards.

HBKU’s CSE will provide innovative bachelor’s degrees across various engineering disciplines tailored to meet the future workforce demands of both the public and private sectors. This expansion of undergraduate offerings highlights HBKU's transition from primarily focusing on postgraduate studies to becoming a comprehensive academic institution in Qatar.

Dr. Ahmad M. Hasnah, President of HBKU, expressed, “This marks a significant milestone in Education City’s journey, signifying HBKU's continuous progression into a multidisciplinary institution focused on research and academic excellence. Our commitment to addressing Qatar’s critical challenges drives us to expand and evolve, producing top-tier students, graduates, and professionals.”

Dr. Mounir Hamdi, Founding Dean of CSE, noted, “With CSE’s established reputation in vital research and educational disciplines, the addition of new academic programs underscores our commitment to fostering innovation in teaching and learning.”

HBKU will enrol its inaugural class for these programs in the upcoming fall semester, which will also include the final cohort of students admitted to Texas A&M University in Qatar. Texas A&M University at Qatar recently announced its intention to cease operations in Qatar by 2028. This initiative exemplifies HBKU's dedication to meeting Qatar's educational needs, ensuring the development of skilled individuals capable of contributing to the nation's growth and prosperity.
