A concerted effort to bolster educational collaboration between Uzbekistan and Korea unfolded as Governor Kim Young-hwan spearheaded a delegation from Chungcheongbuk-do Province to engage with Uzbekistan's Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Innovation, Kongratbay Sharipov. Their chief objective centred on exploring avenues to deepen cooperation in the educational sphere.
Minister Sharipov emphasized the strong existing bonds between five higher education institutions in Uzbekistan and seven universities in Korea, stressing the imperative of introducing novel initiatives to fortify these connections. Of particular interest were proposals to establish collaborative educational programs offering bachelor's and master's degrees.
Governor Kim lauded Uzbekistan's considerable human capital, recognizing its growing appeal on the international stage. He advocated for expanded cooperation to harness this resource effectively and to nurture the development of high-calibre specialists.
Drawing attention to the industrial prowess of Chungcheongbuk-do Province, Governor Kim delineated its advancements across diverse sectors, including the production of electric vehicle batteries, solar panels, semiconductors, biopharmaceuticals, and cosmetics. He underscored the pressing need for engineering training to meet the demands of these burgeoning industries.
Aligned with this vision, Governor Kim proposed the implementation of a program to train Uzbek students on a grant basis, offering them lodging and opportunities for supplemental employment during their tenure in the province. Hwang Yun Won, representing Jungwon University, disclosed the institution's readiness to accommodate Uzbek students, with 2,000 vacancies in fully-equipped student residences, extending a warm invitation to both students and doctoral candidates from Uzbekistan.
Eligibility criteria for program participation encompass proficiency in English or Korean, strong academic performance, and exemplary character. The program's overarching goal is to equip students with contemporary knowledge and skills, facilitating their seamless integration into the workforce upon completion.
