A recent visit by a German delegation to Vietnam emphasized the potential for bilateral collaboration in the development of skilled Vietnamese workers. The visit, led by Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and Labour Minister Hubertus Heil, involved meetings with various Vietnamese government officials and representatives from the German business community. A key focus of the delegation was to enhance cooperation in the skilled workers sector. Germany, facing a shortage of skilled workers in several industries, sees an opportunity in Vietnam, where a significant number of motivated young individuals are willing to work in Germany, particularly in fields such as healthcare, mechanical engineering, and IT, for a certain period.
Moreover, several German educational and vocational training institutions in Vietnam are attracting interest from Vietnamese individuals seeking skill enhancement or industrial training opportunities. In official discussions with Vietnamese President Vo Van Thuong, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, and Parliament Speaker Vuong Dinh Hue, both sides conveyed their commitment to overcoming barriers, enhancing exchanges, and, notably, recruiting skilled workers from Vietnam. This aligns with the objectives outlined in the Strategic Action Plan between the Federal Republic of Germany and Vietnam.
During the initial day of the delegation's visit, emphasis was placed on cultural and political exchanges in Hanoi. This included a visit to the Temple of Literature, recognized as Vietnam's inaugural university with a history spanning 1000 years. The subsequent day in Ho Chi Minh City centered on specific initiatives aimed at recruiting skilled workers. A visit to Deutsches Haus Ho Chi Minh City, hosted by the German Chamber of Commerce and the German Business Association, convened key figures from the German business community in Vietnam. The Vietnamese German University, in collaboration with the University of Leipzig, showcased its programs primarily focused on mechanical engineering, computer science, and management.
