Dhofar to Soon Introduce a New Medical College

  • Dhofar is on the verge of welcoming a new medical college following a ministerial decision from the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation. H E Dr Rahma Ibrahim al Mahrouqi, Minister of Higher Education, Research and Innovation, has issued Ministerial Decision 19/2024, which modifies certain aspects of Ministerial Decision 5/2004 regarding Dhofar University's establishment.

Under the revised decision, Dhofar University will expand its scope to include several colleges: the College of Commerce and Business Administration, the College of Arts and Applied Sciences, the College of Law, and the newly proposed College of Medicine and Scientific Research Centre, awaiting final ministerial approval. The upcoming College of Medicine at Dhofar University is envisioned as a trailblazing institution in the governorate, aiming to bolster national health capabilities.

In 2023, a collaboration between the Ministry of Health and Dhofar University was initiated to facilitate training opportunities for students of the College of Medicine at Sultan Qaboos Hospital in Salalah and Nizwa Hospital. This partnership aims to license medical faculty, create conducive training environments, establish a rigorous training curriculum in alignment with prescribed standards, and engage students in health service research to enhance quality.

Dhofar University (DU), established by Ministerial Decree No. 5/2004 in January 2004, stands as a prominent institution in the Sultanate of Oman. Situated in Salalah, within the Dhofar Governorate, DU is renowned for its scenic beauty, characterized by verdant mountains, unspoiled beaches, and agreeable weather year-round. Spanning an impressive 450,000 square meters, the university campus boasts a fusion of modern and traditional Omani architectural styles and has the capacity to accommodate up to 10,000 students.
