D2L Hosts Roundtable on Technology-Enhanced Learning for Students

  • A roundtable hosted by D2L, a global learning company, convened leaders and experts in education as an increasing number of higher education institutions embrace technology-driven learning. Visionaries, including chancellors and professors from reputable universities, deliberated on challenges, opportunities, and the future. The focal point of the discussion was "Unlocking Student Success: Navigating the Challenges of Student Engagement & Motivation in Technology-Enhanced Learning". The discourse centered on the significance of personalized learning paths for both institutions and students, the enhancement of student engagement through innovations in learning management systems (LMS), and the crucial collaboration between industry and academia.

Elliot Gowans, Senior Vice President, International at D2L, stated, "The significant trend of 2023 has been the rise of generative AI, not limited to education and ed-tech alone. I anticipate this trend persisting into 2024, with the potential to revolutionize education in the years ahead. Another observed trend this year is the increasing adoption of competency- and outcomes-based learning. While these educational models were more prevalent in other countries, they are now gaining traction in India as well. D2L and our D2L Brightspace platform can play a pivotal role in facilitating this transformation. Additionally, a noteworthy aspect observed in India, as well as in other nations, is the variability in factors such as student learning styles and capabilities, the technological proficiency of instructors and faculty, and disparities in access to technology and the internet".

The present condition of higher education in India suggests that a combination of hybrid learning and technology-integrated educational systems could be instrumental in maintaining equilibrium. There was unanimous agreement on the adoption of new and innovative teaching methodologies along with cutting-edge learning technology platforms. Dr. Prem Das Maheshwari, Regional Director, South Asia at D2L Corporation, emphasized that modern pedagogy entails the use of diverse assessment tools to enhance students' learning efficiency. He highlighted the role of technology providers, stating that they can assist Indian higher education institutions in reaching new heights. As a technology provider, D2L has formed alliances with the National Medical Commission (NMC) and is actively involved in medical education in the country.
