Professor Huang Hui Robin, Faculty Member of the Faculty of Law of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), has been awarded the Second-class Award in Books and Theses of the 9th Round Higher Education Outstanding Scientific Research Output Awards (Humanities and Social Sciences) by the Ministry of Education (MoE) of the People's Republic of China.
CUHK Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research) Professor Sham Mai-har said she was thrilled that Professor Huang was selected for this honour. His research not only deconstructs systematically the institutional logic of fintech regulation in China, but explores the Chinese model from a global governance perspective via comparative study. This offers policymakers and scholars alike a reference that is both theoretically informed and practically useful, and also reflects CUHK's dedication to the humanities and social sciences and its global orientation.
Professor Huang's award-winning book Fintech Regulation in China: Principles, Policies and Practices (Cambridge University Press, 2021) is the first book in English on the development and regulation of fintech in China. It was predominantly worked on in 2020, a time when fintech was developing more rapidly with the COVID-19 pandemic. The book thoroughly examines issues of fintech governance and regulation models in China, pinpointing and exploring the environmental determinants influencing policy making and implementation, as well as their interconnections.
Professor Huang also undertakes comparative studies of practices in mainland China alongside leading international fintech jurisdictions including the United States, the United Kingdom, Singapore and Hong Kong, advancing a nuanced understanding of the strengths and limitations of the Chinese experience from a global standpoint and on the basis of it, making pertinent recommendations for enhancement.
