Clarkson University announces A New Master's Program in Cybersecurity

  • As society increasingly relies on the Internet, the imperative to safeguard our digital realm becomes ever more pressing. Clarkson University has risen to this challenge by introducing a novel master's program in Cybersecurity. This STEM-designated initiative adopts an interdisciplinary approach, offering students a broad spectrum of options. Developed jointly by the Computer Science and Electrical and Computer Engineering departments, the program draws upon their respective strengths.

While Computer Science specializes in computing fundamentals and computer and network security, Electrical and Computer Engineering complements this with expertise in hardware security and biometrics. Furthermore, researchers from various disciplines across the university contribute their knowledge in applied cybersecurity, software security, artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), and pattern recognition.

Michelle Crimi, Dean of the Graduate School, emphasizes Clarkson's unique positioning to deliver this interdisciplinary program, aligning with the increasing demand for cybersecurity professionals. Through this program, students gain hands-on experience in addressing pertinent cybersecurity issues and benefit from an extensive industry network upon graduation.

Clarkson University's faculty engagement in cutting-edge cybersecurity research enriches the program's educational framework. With a focus on Internet and mobile device security, AI risk management, forensic software, border security, airport security, cryptographic protocol verification, and cybersecurity education, faculty contribute to the program's depth and relevance.

Moreover, Clarkson's collaborations with governmental entities such as the Department of Defense (DoD) Defense Forensics and Biometrics Agency (DFBA) and the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) reinforce its commitment to advancing cybersecurity. Additionally, partnerships with industry stakeholders ensure alignment with current real-world challenges and experiences.
