CityUHK Launches Digital Medicine Institute with Global Collaborations

  • At a special ceremony marking the inauguration of the CityUHK Institute of Digital Medicine (IDM), academic, clinical, and industry partners signed multiple Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with the City University of Hong Kong.

    The academic and research collaborators include esteemed institutions such as the National University of Singapore Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, Tsinghua University, Southern Medical University, University of Exeter in the UK, and the Oxford Suzhou Centre for Advanced Research (OSCAR).

    The IDM, in collaboration with renowned global universities, medical schools, clinical partners, industry stakeholders, and health tech investors, aims to leverage expertise in engineering, data science, and life science to pioneer innovative technologies supporting medical practitioners and exploring digital health solutions for the benefit of patients.

    The establishment of the IDM and the MoU signing ceremony were attended by Professor Sun Dong, Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry of the HKSAR Government, Mr Lester Garson Huang, Council Chairman of CityUHK, and Professor Freddy Boey, President of CityUHK.

    Mr. Huang emphasized that the IDM aligns with the government's vision of establishing Hong Kong as a global hub for life and health technology. He underscored CityUHK's commitment to innovating digital health solutions for healthcare's future. Mr. Huang expressed gratitude for the support from prestigious medical schools, research institutions, leading enterprises, and venture capital firms in the digital medicine field.

    President Boey highlighted CityUHK's dedication to promoting innovative education and research excellence. He emphasized the integration of digital innovation with traditional medicine to provide cost-efficient and sustainable healthcare solutions.

    The long-term objectives of the IDM include advancing research in life and health technologies, data science, and artificial intelligence integration with medical science and public health. By leveraging CityUHK's strengths, the IDM aims to empower doctors with advanced technologies and explore the long-term benefits of digital health solutions for patients.
