Chinese Scientists Visit Al-Farabi KazNU to Plan Joint Research Projects

  • A delegation from East China Pedagogical University visited Al-Farabi KazNU and met with the Vice-Rector for Operations Yerkin Duisenov and the deans of various faculties. The Vice-Rector, in welcoming the delegation, emphasized KazNU's strong focus on cooperation with neighboring countries and its openness to new scientific and educational collaborations. KazNU currently partners with 57 universities in China, with Chinese professors regularly visiting to deliver lectures. Additionally, last year, KazNU opened a branch of Northwestern Polytechnic University (PRC), which offers dual-degree master's programs in three fields of study.

    A joint laboratory on remote sensing technologies and their applications, named the Sino-Kazakhstan Joint Laboratory for Remote Sensing Technology and Application, has been established at the Faculty of Geography and Nature Management in collaboration with the Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography. Currently, 558 Chinese students are enrolled at KazNU in the Department of Chinese Studies, where they are trained as specialists in Chinese studies through a three-level system comprising bachelor's, master's, and doctoral (PhD) degrees.

    The Vice-Rector highlighted that Al-Farabi KazNU, following a determination and voting process, has been ranked among the Top 200 universities in the world, securing the 163rd position in the international QS ranking. In the Central Asian region, KazNU ranks 29th, and it holds the 2nd position in the post-Soviet space, trailing only Lomonosov Moscow State University. Ms. Wang Haiyan, Director of the Center for the Study of Kazakhstan, expressed gratitude to the leadership for the warm welcome and their time and discussed the activities of East China Normal University along with future plans. Both parties deliberated on developing mutual cooperation and exchanged views.
