China Grants Scholarships to 200 Ethiopian Students for 2024/2025

  • A farewell ceremony was conducted for 200 Ethiopian students who have been admitted to Chinese universities for the 2024/2025 academic year. At the event, held at the Chinese Embassy in Ethiopia, Minister Counselor Shen Qinmin highlighted that the support from the Chinese government and MOFCOM scholarships has made it possible for many ambitious Ethiopian students to achieve their dream of studying at esteemed universities in China.

    In recent years, an increasing number of young Ethiopians have fulfilled their dream of studying for bachelor, master and doctoral degrees in prestigious Chinese universities. Minister Counselor Shen said that the scholarships play a crucial role and driving force for Ethiopia in promoting all round economic and social developments, stressing that Ethiopia and China now are making greatest efforts in striving for their respective modernization and achieve the goal of high quality development with the strong support of thriving education, science and technology.

    He emphasized that the scholarship programs are crucial for fostering cultural exchange, mutual learning, and strengthening the all-weather strategic partnership between the two countries. Idossa Terfassa, Head of Ethiopia's Scholarship and Internationalization Desk at the Ministry of Education, noted that supporting Ethiopia’s human resource development through both long-term and short-term training, as well as higher education scholarships, is a key focus of the bilateral agreement between the two nations.

    He added that the scholarship programs not only enhance the educational achievements of the students but also strengthen the bilateral relations between the two nations. He urged the scholarship recipients to embrace the responsibility of upholding values of excellence, integrity, and service to others.
