In a groundbreaking development aimed at advancing Indian education in the UAE, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has launched its inaugural Regional Office (RO) and Centre of Excellence (CoE) outside India, situated in Dubai. This historic occasion was marked by a special orientation session held on Teachers' Day, which was attended by CBSE officials, representatives from the Indian Mission in Dubai, and principals from 78 schools across Dubai and the Northern Emirates.
The session served as a platform to outline the new office's objectives, scope, and anticipated impact on the region. Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the establishment of the CBSE RO & CoE in Dubai on February 13, 2024, during his visit to the UAE, with operations commencing on July 2, 2024, at the Consulate General of India in Dubai.
At the orientation, Dr. Ram Shankar, Director of the CBSE RO & CoE in Dubai, provided an in-depth overview of the board’s mission in the region. He highlighted CBSE’s commitment to advancing outcome-based education, incorporating art and health education, and aligning new skill subjects with global educational trends. Additionally, the board plans to introduce assessment reforms aimed at improving competency-based and student-centered education.
The newly established regional office is designed to manage exams in the region and foster experiential learning through creative approaches such as sports, storytelling, and toy-based education. The Centre of Excellence will concentrate on providing in-service teacher training, ensuring educators are equipped with the skills and knowledge required to stay current with educational innovations and global teaching methodologies.
In his address, Satish Kumar Sivan, Consul General of India in Dubai, highlighted the importance of this new development, stating, "The Centre for Excellence will empower teachers with cutting-edge training, keeping them updated on best practices and innovative technologies. This will significantly enrich the learning experience for students." He added, "The office symbolizes the hopes, dreams, and aspirations of thousands of stakeholders and will serve as a beacon of excellence and a hub for academic support in the years to come".
