The Central Board of Secondary Education stated that interested schools will soon be able to apply for the 'PM SHRI' (Pradhan Mantri Schools for Rising India) designation through the CBSE SARAS portal. According to reports, some institutions under this 'Change in Name of School' category will bag the much-coveted prefix when applications reopen for the 2025-26 academic year. So far, the portal remains closed, and only assurance has been given by CBSE that the link to apply through the portal would open next year.
To be eligible for the PM SHRI prefix, applicants schools must present an official letter of approval from the Ministry of Education evidencing their eligibility. The PM SHRI Scheme was launched by the Government of India on September 7, 2022, with the objective of up-gradation of schools into models of educational excellence aligned to quality learning, keeping in view the NEP 2020.
With Rs 27,000 crore, allocated over five years, the scheme will take an upgrade of 14,500 schools coming under the ambit of the central and state administrations. The Kendriya Vidyalayas and Navodaya Vidyalayas then would be 'models' for NEP 2020 thoughts and ideas. These schools shall become a symbol for quality education in the whole country and truly bring forward a model for a modern educational system which works towards providing students with the right skill to survive in this new-age, rapid-changing 21st century.
