Cambodian Students Invent Mobile-Controlled Vacuum Robot

  • A group of 11th-grade students from Hun Sen Chumpouvorn General and Technical High School in Phnom Penh have developed an impressive mobile-controlled vacuuming robot called the "Smart Tile Cleaning Robot." This creation, lauded by the Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sport, showcases the students' ingenuity in addressing practical needs through technology.

Led by Ly Hongmean, the team designed the robot to assist in cleaning hard-to-reach areas, particularly benefiting elderly individuals with mobility issues. Its compact design allows it to navigate tight spaces effortlessly, vacuuming dust and mopping up water, with waste stored internally. Developed over five months, the project not only resulted in a functioning robot but also honed the students' technical and problem-solving skills, essential for the job market.

At Hun Sen Chumpouvorn, students specialize in one of three technical subjects from grade 10 onwards alongside their general education. This educational approach, as noted by electronics teacher Samsu Raktong, provides students with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills. The success of the "Smart Tile Cleaning Robot" reflects the effectiveness of this model, blending comprehensive education with technical training.

The Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sport, represented by spokesperson Khuon Vicheka, emphasizes the importance of general and technical high schools in offering a well-rounded education and technical expertise. With plans to extend this program, the ministry aims to equip more students with the skills required for today's job market, contributing to the country's economic growth.

The tale of the "Smart Tile Cleaning Robot" and its creators exemplifies how targeted education and hands-on projects prepare students for success. It underscores the significance of STEM education and technical training in a technology-driven world. As Cambodia invests in its youth, initiatives like this pave the way for a brighter, more innovative future.
