Cambodia Empowers Youth with Online Vocational Training Program

  • Cambodia's Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training has initiated an online vocational training program to empower youth from vulnerable families. The objective is to boost their employment opportunities and alleviate poverty. This ambitious online Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET) program has the potential to significantly impact Cambodia's youth, offering skills to improve their employment prospects and uplift them from poverty, thereby reshaping the country's socio-economic landscape.

Operating through the digital platform "tvet.gov.kh," this program offers a user-friendly avenue for easy registration and enrollment in vocational training courses. Launched at the National Polytechnic Institute of Cambodia, the initiative has garnered significant interest, attracting over 27,000 individuals, with the highest number of applicants hailing from the capital city, Phnom Penh. The Ministry has introduced a comprehensive selection of 477 courses across diverse fields such as construction, mechanics, business, information technology, and electrical manufacturing, aiming to cater to a wide range of interests and aptitudes. This extensive program creates numerous opportunities for the youth in Cambodia.

Aiming to reach 1.5 million youth, the initiative extends beyond providing tuition-free education. It includes a monthly stipend, aiming to eliminate financial obstacles and ensure education is available to everyone. Minister Heng Sour, who launched the program, emphasized the significance of acquiring skills for higher income and reducing family pressures. Prime Minister Hun Manet echoed this, expressing optimism that graduates of the program would attain quality employment, highlighting the government's dedication to ensuring successful employment outcomes for participants.
