Branch of University of Lorraine,France to open At Kazakhstan

  • A branch of the University of Lorraine(French University) is to open at Abai Kazakh National Pedagogical University in Kazakhstan. The Kazakhstan's President, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, during a media briefing in France, announced the news. Discussions between President Tokayev and French President Emmanuel Macron preceded the issuance of a joint statement issued after their talks.

    "This visit is very important for us. France is a close and reliable partner of Kazakhstan within the European Union. Over the past 34 years, our relations have acquired a strategic nature", said President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.

    He emphasized that during substantive talks with President Macron, the need for the development of trade and economic cooperation was highlighted. Tokayev also focused on expanding contacts between leading universities in the fields of science and technology.

    "We are currently considering the establishment of a Kazakh-French Lumière University Center. Additionally, Kazakh-French schools will be built in Astana and Almaty. Relevant documents were signed today. These schools will undoubtedly provide young people with the opportunity to receive education to the highest standards. Kazakhstan is ready to strengthen relations with universities and research centers in France", the President noted.

    Emmanuel Macron underlined the necessity of cooperation between France and Kazakhstan in dealing with global challenges common to both parties, such as climate change and combating terrorism. The two countries share common views on major regional and international issues that are based on adherence to the UN Charter, respect for territorial integrity, and promotion of human rights.The briefing ended with the two presidents, Tokayev and Macron, signing a Joint Declaration that would attest to their commitment to enhance the strategic partnership between their two states.
