Azerbaijan to Integrate Climate Change Education into Future Academic Programs

  • During the closing ceremony of the International Conference held as part of Climate Action Week in Baku, Azerbaijan's Deputy Minister of Science and Education, Idris Isayev, announced plans to integrate climate change subjects into educational curriculum. He highlighted the pivotal role of education in addressing the challenges posed by climate change.

Isayev stated, “The most effective way to educate our youth and children is through formal education systems. We must take concrete steps in both secondary and higher education to address these issues. For the academic year 2024/2025, we anticipate not only an increase in higher education enrollment but also a growing interest in climate-related fields. Educational programs will be revised to better prepare specialists in this crucial area. It’s essential to develop a strategy for teaching green skills, and we need active participation from our educational and research institutions.”

The conference, titled "Accelerating Research and Collaboration for Climate Action," marked the conclusion of Climate Action Week, which is dedicated to COP29. The agenda featured discussions on various topics, including advancements in understanding greenhouse gas emissions through empirical data and AI, the importance of global collaboration to tackle scientific challenges, and the effects of climate change on transboundary water management.

This inaugural Climate Action Week in Baku brought together stakeholders from diverse sectors, including politics, finance, trade, science, art, culture, civil society, and the media.
