The Australia-China Chinese Medicine Centre, a collaborative venture between Western Sydney University and Beijing University of Chinese Medicine (BUCM), marked its 10th anniversary by looking back at the decade-long journey of development in research, education, and practice. To commemorate this significant milestone, the Centre organized the inaugural Asia-Pacific Forum on the Global Exchange of Chinese Medicine.
This seminar took place at the State Library of New South Wales and included many influential leaders in Traditional Chinese Medicine, which provided opportunities for collaboration and innovative solutions.
Western Sydney University Vice-Chancellor and President, Distinguished Professor George Williams AO opened the conference and acknowledged the impact of the Centre.
“The CMC is a valued partnership between both universities, and I enjoyed meeting the Beijing University of Chinese Medicine President, Professor Tang Zhishu and his team”, said Professor Williams.
“The Centre has led the way in education, research and clinical practice over the past 10 years, serving the community, advancing the understanding and practice of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and promoting holistic health solutions nationally and internationally”.
With the Dean of the School of Health Sciences, Professor Sarah Lewis serving as the Master of Ceremonies, the event followed an engaging program, including keynote speeches, the first International Bilingual TCM Short Video Competition, and a traditional Baduanjin exercise session.
The event was supported by TCM staff and students, with Western Sydney University the only institution in Australia that offers a complete Chinese Medicine education pathway.
Co-Director of the Chinese Medicine Centre, Professor Xiaoshu Zhu said she was looking forward to the two institutions strengthening their commitment to global health and integrative medicine.
“The event celebrated everything we have achieved but also focused on how our continued cooperation can advance our efforts in the future”, said Professor Zhu.
“Looking ahead, the Centre aims to strengthen its global network, foster innovative research, and enhance its impact on community health, solidifying its role as a leader in the Asia-Pacific region and beyond”.
