Assiut University Launches First Japanese Language Course with Japan Foundation

  • Assiut University, in collaboration with the Japan Foundation, Cairo, has launched the first-ever introductory Japanese course in Assiut. This follows the success of trial sessions held offline on the university campus on June 2 and 3, 2024, and online on June 5 and 6, 2024.

    The course will teach its 30 participants the first level of Japanese language along with practical communication skills at A1 level using the Japan Foundation’s official coursebook “Marugoto,” with the aim of spreading the Japanese language and culture in Assiut, which will help the participants re-evaluate their own culture, and learn tolerance for other cultures as well.

    The course is scheduled to be offered annually during summer vacations. This year, it will run for two months starting August 6, 2024, with a mix of online and offline classes. The sessions will be conducted by Japanese language teachers, Ms. Hala Goher and Ms. Rawan Adel.

    On the first day of the course, a commemoration ceremony was held in Assiut University prior to the first lesson which was attended by Dr. Ahmed Abd Al-Mowally; Vice President of Assiut University for Education and Student Affairs, Dr. Dina Mourad; Faculty member at Faculty of Medicine Assiut University and Coordinator of International Relations and Mr. Kento Onodera; Deputy Director of the Japan Foundation, Cairo.

    The Japan Foundation, an independent administrative organization established in 1972 under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, aims to promote international cultural exchange and foster harmonious relationships with foreign countries. Its activities span various fields, including arts, culture, Japanese language, and Japanese studies, as well as intellectual exchange.
