In his End of School Year 2024-2025 Message, Education Secretary Sonny Angara talked about the actions his department has been undertaking to address some of the issues plaguing Philippine education. In the message, Angara pointed out the End of School Year theme, Henerasyon ng Pagkakaisa: Kaagapay ng Bagong Pilipinas (Generation of Unity, Partners for the New Philippines), highlights the nation's joint endeavor in consolidating the education system to cope with the demands of a fast-changing world.
"I have witnessed this dedication personally in my travels to schools throughout the nation. I have encountered students who wake up at the crack of dawn to walk kilometers to study, educators who extend themselves beyond what is required of them, and parents who forego in order to give their children better opportunities. These facts compel us to create lasting reforms", Angara stated.
Tackling the recurring classroom shortage, recruitment of additional personnel, speeding up digitalization, enhancing career progression, and adopting policies that result in long-term systemic reforms constitute DepEd's five-point reform agenda.
"We opened the doors of our schools and offices to our private sector partners so all these can be made possible", Angara says, as the department is now leading the work in building a future-proof education system, with the objective of making every Filipino child, wherever they may be, to have access to learning, growth and success.
Angara expressed his appreciation to the school staff and teachers for their perseverance, referring to it as the backbone of the transformation of the department. "Your optimism and efforts are why we are succeeding", Angara stated. Angara also credited the guardians and parents of students, whose reinforcement at home guides the goals of students and pushes them to aspire higher.
"And to our students, you are the heart of everything we do. Your dreams fuel our drive to make education better and more inclusive", Angara stated.
He asked the graduates and completers of SY 2024-2025 to bring with them the Filipinos' values of perseverance, resourcefulness, and compassion. Angara stated that the Marcos-era Department of Education continues to be dedicated to improving the quality of learning, enhancing governance, and making sure that the Filipino youth achieve their full potential.
