In the heart of Delhi, the prestigious Association of Korean Language Educators in India (AKLEI) is hosting the 2024 Seminar on Korean Language Education in India and its Indianization on April 26th and 27th at the University of Delhi's Faculty of Arts. This event promises to foster a rich exchange of ideas and cultural insights.
The opening day, overseen by Prof. Anil Rai, the Dean of International Relations at DU, will feature addresses by Prof. Do Young Kim, President of AKLEI and Honorary Director at JMI, as well as H.E. Sang Woo Lim, the Deputy Chief of Mission from the Republic of Korea, and Hyunsoo Choi, Director of the Korea Foundation. Prof. Kapil Kapoor, a respected figure from JNU, will deliver the keynote speech, initiating discussions on Korean language education in the Indian context.
Day 1 will delve into various aspects of language, education, and culture. Neerja Samajdar will explore the evolving landscape of Korean language education in India, while Anna Yang will analyze key elements in teaching Korean as a foreign language.
Parallel sessions will provide in-depth examinations of pedagogical approaches, translation obstacles, and the incorporation of Korean culture into Indian education. Dr. Ahanthem Romita Devi will lead a session on translation and pedagogy, focusing on cultural translation, linguistic nuances, and challenges in teaching Korean-Hindi literary translation. As Day 1 concludes, participants will depart with minds abuzz with new ideas and hearts warmed by collaborative exchanges.
Day 2 will begin with a special session chaired by Prof. Nabin Kumar Panda, delving into the implications of the National Education Policy (NEP) on language education, particularly in India’s eastern regions. Subsequent sessions will further explore the interplay of language, culture, and pedagogy, covering topics such as learner challenges and the globalization of curricula.
