Airbnb Teams Up with Fly Homes to Provide Short-Term Rentals for Indian Students

  • In a notable initiative to support the transitional housing needs of Indian students studying abroad, Airbnb has formed a special partnership with Fly Homes, the international student accommodation division of Leverage Edu, a prominent student recruitment platform. This collaboration aims to showcase Airbnb’s short-term rental offerings as a practical option for students as they adjust to their new environments overseas.

With more than 1.33 million Indian students currently studying abroad and projections indicating this figure could rise to 2 million by 2027, the partnership is well-timed. Indian students now represent the largest group of international students globally, with major destinations including the UK, USA, Australia, Canada, and EU countries. The collaboration aims to give these students access to Airbnb’s extensive range of short-term rental properties during their transition period. This may include accommodations for pre-departure university visits or while waiting for permanent housing upon arrival in their host countries.

“Through this partnership with Leverage Edu, we aim to position Airbnb as a convenient option for students who are navigating their educational journeys abroad”, said Amanpreet Bajaj, General Manager of Airbnb India, Southeast Asia, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. “Our diverse range of listings can provide a comfortable, home-like environment during the transitional period, offering peace of mind to students and their families”.

As part of the collaboration, informational campaigns will be launched across Leverage Edu’s platforms to offer students guidance on using Airbnb’s rental services. The partnership will be integrated into important stages of the university application process, with Airbnb’s offerings prominently featured on Leverage Edu’s student app, "Study Abroad with Leverage Edu," as well as at its global experience centers.

Akshay Chaturvedi, Founder & CEO of Leverage Edu & Fly Homes, shared his excitement about the partnership: “This collaboration with Airbnb represents a significant step towards enhancing the experience for our students as they prepare for life abroad. By offering seamless access to short-term housing options through our app, we aim to make the transition as smooth and stress-free as possible”.

In the coming year, the partnership is anticipated to benefit around 15,000 students, providing them with greater flexibility and options as they face the challenges of relocating to a new country. This initiative aligns with Airbnb’s mission to offer affordable and reliable accommodations globally, as well as Leverage Edu’s dedication to supporting students at every step of their overseas education journey. The collaboration presents a valuable opportunity to ease housing concerns for students, allowing them to concentrate on their academic and personal growth as they embark on transformative educational experiences abroad.
