AFLATOUN International has launched its Asia Regional Meeting in Cebu, gathering educators, government officials, and stakeholders from across Asia for a five-day event. The focus is on discussing strategies to implement youth empowerment programs in the region, particularly in social and financial education.
The conference agenda features high-level discussions on incorporating social and financial education into national curricula, attended by representatives from various national government agencies, ranging from education and finance to youth affairs and central banks. Participants will also take part in workshops covering topics such as climate change and financial resilience, communications, fundraising, and Aflatoun’s revised curricula and digital tools.
Kirsten Theuns, program director at Aflatoun International, underscored the significance of collaborative efforts in advancing youth education and empowerment. She emphasized the organization's commitment to equipping children with skills essential for building a sustainable future and addressing environmental challenges.
The event strengthens backing for the Utrecht Declaration, a global initiative promoting the integration of social and financial education into national education systems. Endorsed by nearly 200 organizations from 67 countries at Aflatoun’s Global Social and Financial Skills Conference in 2023, the declaration highlights a unified global dedication to this objective.
During the conference, Aflatoun is introducing its “Join the Movement” campaign, aimed at broadening its coalition of partners dedicated to youth empowerment. The organization encourages new partners and organizations to join in equipping children with essential knowledge and skills. The event, concluding on June 28, offers networking opportunities and features a visit to Lamac Multi-Purpose Cooperative, enabling participants to exchange experiences and explore potential collaborations.
