The Abu Dhabi Judicial Department (ADJD) recently conducted a simulated legal session for students from Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi's College of Law, aiming to bridge the gap between theoretical learning and practical legal application. This initiative is part of broader endeavours to enhance the quality of legal education and training, aligning with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan to foster community engagement and leadership across various sectors.
The mock session unfolded within a designated training courtroom, with students assuming various roles like judges, prosecutors, assistants, and defence lawyers, delving into different facets of legal practice. By immersing themselves in this simulated environment, students can apply their academic knowledge and skills to real-world legal scenarios, thereby narrowing the divide between theory and practice.
Established on June 15, 2007, under Law No. 23 of 2006, the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department is mandated to ensure the fair dispensation of justice and equality for all residents and citizens of Abu Dhabi. It oversees and coordinates legal and judicial mechanisms, including a tri-tiered court system comprising the Court of Cassation, Court of Appeals, and Courts of First Instance, aimed at upholding individual rights and the rule of law.
Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi, established in May 2006 under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and the Department of Education and Knowledge (ADEK), in collaboration with Sorbonne University, embodies the Emirate's vision for academic and cultural advancement.
Through such collaborative initiatives between academic institutions and judicial bodies, students gain invaluable practical experience, enriching their educational journey and preparing them for the complexities of legal practice. This aligns with broader societal goals of nurturing a skilled workforce and promoting the rule of law in Abu Dhabi's evolving legal landscape.
