Abu Dhabi University raises Awareness with Two Events on Autism

  • Abu Dhabi University (ADU) recently organized two impactful events in collaboration with the Emirates Autism Society (EAS) to promote inclusive education and raise awareness about Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). These events, held in April during Autism Awareness Month, aimed to highlight the talents of individuals with autism while debunking common misconceptions.

The eighth 'ADU Art for Autism Competition', conducted in partnership with the Abu Dhabi Music and Arts Foundation (ADMAF), attracted over 80 artworks from 18 special needs centers and schools across the UAE. Participants had the freedom to choose their own themes, allowing them to showcase their creativity and abilities. The artworks were displayed at ADU's main campus, where a jury committee carefully assessed them and announced the winners. Among the winners were Muhammad Muneeb Baig, Ariana Amelia Baksh, Tanmay Mahajan, Asmaa Ishaq Mohammed Naseeb Al Balushi, Saif Ahmed Jalal, and Mubarak Ali Mubarak Ali Saeed Al Owlaqi, all of whom demonstrated exceptional talent and dedication.

The fourth 'Autism Spectrum Disorders Symposium', themed 'Empowering Diversity: Navigating the Spectrum with Innovation', was organized in partnership with EAS and the Emirates Speech and Language Pathology Society. The event, graced by H.E. Majid Sultan AlMuhairi, Chairman of the Board of Directors at EAS, featured expert speakers from various fields including autism, special education, inclusive education, and speech and language therapy. Through engaging discussions and presentations, the symposium aimed to educate the community about ASD and explore innovative approaches to supporting individuals on the spectrum.

These initiatives by ADU reflect a commitment to fostering an inclusive society where individuals with autism are recognized for their unique talents and abilities. By providing platforms for expression and education, ADU and its partners are working towards building a more understanding and supportive community for individuals with autism in the UAE.
