A Vietnamese Prodigy Earns Scholarships From 16 Leading US Universities

  • Le Minh Bao, a senior at Vietnam Australia International School (VAS) in Ho Chi Minh City, has gained global attention for receiving offers from 16 prestigious U.S. universities. Among these offers is a fully-funded scholarship for the distinguished engineering program at the University of Connecticut, where he stands as the sole Vietnamese recipient among five global candidates selected from over 50,000 applicants for this comprehensive scholarship.

Bao's academic journey commenced early, fueled by a passion for engineering ignited during various fairs and exhibitions attended with his father, an expert in the electrical industry. This exposure inspired him to pursue a career in engineering, specifically in the design and manufacturing of industrial machinery. Bao's dedication to his dream is evident in his careful selection of U.S. universities, targeting institutions that provide significant opportunities for learning, research and employment in engineering.

His academic excellence is complemented by his involvement in extracurricular activities, such as founding a charity marathon support running group and participating in robotics projects. This well-rounded profile enhances his attractiveness to universities.

Navigating the rigorous application process, Bao encountered the challenge of aligning his personal statement with his engineering aspirations. Initially drawn to writing about his passion for running, he later shifted his focus to his robotics journey, emphasizing internship and project experiences in the field.

This strategic adjustment highlighted his dedication and enthusiasm for engineering, significantly strengthening his applications. Bao's narrative serves as a demonstration of the significance of persistence, strategic planning, and self-reflection in attaining educational and career objectives.
