Among the top 50 finalists for the 2023 Global Student Prize includes a student from the UAE. Vansh Gadhia, a 17-year-old student at Dubai College in the United Arab Emirates, was chosen out of 4000 applicants from 122 nations. One extraordinary student that has made a significant influence on education, the daily activities of those around them, and society at large receive the $100,000 Chegg.org prize each year. Vansh Gadhia, an inborn of Kenya, has devoted himself to combating inequality and has accomplished exceptional results in the global debate, mathematics, speaking, and coding contests.
Young Vansh wondered how Kenya's poor youngsters could afford such spectacles when they had been diagnosed with short-sightedness at the age of 10 and told they needed glasses. Gadhia contacted Al Jaber Opticals for assistance in producing free glasses after learning about an NGO known as Lions Club International that provided vision tests for the poor. 63,000 Kenyan youngsters living in rural areas had their eyes examined during the course of the experiment, and 500 free eyeglasses with custom lenses were distributed. Vansh has served as a part of Khushi Gadhia's Old Books for New Eyes program for the past two years. Khushi is his mentor's sister. The organization attempts to increase literacy across Africa by giving worn and outdated picture books to impoverished youngsters. Approximately 25,000 storybooks have been divided into different categories and packed into boxes before being sent to Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.
He served as a key contributor to this initiative. Gadhia recently launched an initiative that uses machine learning to identify people in Kenya who are most vulnerable to getting type 2 diabetes. He has discovered a connection between several tribal cultures and Type 2 Diabetes, and he is currently researching the root causes of such patterns. In order to increase his classmates' knowledge of and exposure to computer science, Vansh formed the Computer Science Society at Dubai College. Nearly 80 students registered for the organization, and the members take an active role in talks, initiatives, and contests like hackathons.
In order to develop an avenue that recognizes the achievements of exceptional students, the Varkey Foundation coupled up with Chegg.org to establish the annual Global Student Prize in 2021. All students who have reached at least 16 years old and registered in a college or university or a vocational or technical program are eligible to win. Students undertaking courses via the internet along with part-time students have the opportunity to win the award.
