The 'Study in India' program has formally been launched by India at the 20th International Education Show in Sharjah to take international students to its universities. This campaign, under the umbrella of EdCIL, will try to position India as one of the popular destinations in the world for education, considering this governmental body is an organization under the Ministry of Education. The India Pavilion at the Expo Centre Sharjah was inaugurated by Ahmed Mohamed Obaid Al Naboodah from the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry, in conjunction with Shri Yatin Patil, Deputy Consul General of India in Dubai.
The 'Study in India' program has over 590 Indian universities and institutions that offer different courses, with fee waivers and scholarship opportunities for international students. Such efforts focus on quality education access at affordable prices, an attractive approach for students from developing countries.
Dr. B. Chandrashekhar, Executive Director of EdCIL, emphasized the Study in India portal, which, he said is an umbrella to facilitate the admission process for international students. "This portal streamlines admissions, enables students to check out various academic programs, apply to multiple institutions, and takes care of visa procedures all from one place, "he elaborated. He added that the bigger ambitions of this scheme is it aims to have collaborative opportunities in academics and research with foreign institutions.
Presently, the higher education sector of India branded itself to be the second largest in the world. Gradually, it is improving its position in the international ranking also. Institutions like IISc Bangalore are making increasingly significant strides, making India all the more of a desirable destination to gain quality education at a lower cost. The education system of the country reeks of well-recognized institutions such as IITs, NITs, IIMs, and other growing universities which have evolved to gain international reputation. The program already attracted more than 69,000 students for the 2024-25 academic year with 4,000 having already arrived in India.
The International Education Show, a leading higher education exhibition in partnership with the Sharjah Private Education Authority, is one of the fastest-growing and most prestigious events in its own right. And for this year, it is hosted under the patronage of the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) in Expo Centre Sharjah. With more than 100 universities and educational institutions from over 20 countries such as India, Canada, the UK, Bahrain, Malaysia, and Cyprus, the event will attract a large gathering to explore new horizons for higher education opportunities.
